'Collapse Theories' - new 28-track compilation out now - part victory parade, part riot
All proceeds donated to Bundjalung Community Flood Relief - exclusive to Bandcamp
I’m no quantum physicist, but the phrase “Collapse Theories” struck a wobbly chord when I stumbled across it, somewhere down the wormhole. And here’s what struck me: what does this moment truly represent, this Collapse of all things? And what do we all do after the Collapse? No one knows what happens next, but we all have a theory.
The 28 artists on this new compilation have their theories too. I asked them to direct their energies (light or dark; focused or fucked) into what might be considered a ‘soundtrack of the now’ (which is grandiose af, but hey let’s live a little). The result is what I might call ‘part victory parade, part riot’. Not all outcomes are celebratory, not everyone is happy. Either way, it’s a great cathartic burst, a true primal scream.
Thank you to all of the amazing and beautiful artists who contributed their theories - Alexis Weaver, ALI WAN HILL, ALX; GoSlow, Aphir, Bacchus Harsh, Decadent Discord, Gillian Lever, Haunts, jobfit, Kris Keogh, Lack The Low, Madenda, Megadead, Melanie Eden, Mookoid, Orbits, Puscha, Reuben Ingall, screensaver, Scraps, Silonics, Sudden Debt, The Omega Point, Travis Cook, Universal Cruelty, WPH and Zacharias Szumer - and special thanks to Timothy Dwyer (Horse Macgyver) who contributes both an exclusive track and the stellar cover art.
And if there was any doubt as to whether we are in the midst of an ongoing collapse, earlier this month Australia was once again battered by climate chaos, as unprecedented floods hit areas of Queensland and New South Wales - in some areas, they were the highest floods since colonial records began.
I can’t begin to imagine what it feels like to survive two years of a global pandemic, only to lose everything overnight. It’s truly horrific; families remain physically stranded, seeking basic support and supplies. In light of this, all proceeds from this release will be donated to Bundjalung Community Flood Relief, providing direct financial support to Bundjalung Aboriginal communities affected by the devastating impacts of flood. You can chose whatever amount you like on Bandcamp, and 100% of all money received will be directly donated.
Make what you will of the Collapse Theories journey - it’s a hypothesis in progress.
Stay safe -
