New music now streaming + artist call-out for 2025
Our streaming playlist has been refreshed, with 55 tracks of new and recent Australian releases. Plus new artist opportunites for the coming year.
Hello to your good self!
A few things to let you know about in this Substack - new music, new callout and new somewhere that isn’t Tw*tter.
First up, our streaming playlist has been refreshed, with 55 tracks of new and recent Australian releases. In the playlist, You’ll find music from Acopia, BAYANG (tha Bushranger), CS + Kreme, Dregs, Grasps, JWPaton, Keanu Nelson, Laurence Pike, Lavurn, Mara, Marcus Whale, Party Dozen, Scythe, Teether, Th Blisks, Troth, Yirinda and many more. This is the seventh edition of our Playlist, catalogue NWAPL007, with a runtime of 4h15m. (Cover image: Lavurn)
Listen on Tidal (we much prefer Tidal as a streamer)
Expressions of interest are open for 2025 projects.
EMERGING ARTISTS - we’re interested in hearing from emerging artists for inclusion in various releases and projects in 2025. Whilst our current cohort is strong, we’re always on the look out for artists who are in the early phases of their practice, and who may have only taken a few steps in sharing their work.
NEW VIDEO WORK - we’re also keen to feature video work more broadly across our channels; and would love to hear from any artists who have recently made, or are intending to make, a film/video clip to accompany their music. Unreleased or upcoming films particularly welcome to premiere on our channels.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR - The terms ‘weird’ or ‘experimental’ are nebulous and resist definition. ‘Wyrd’ and ‘strange’ in their original definition refer to something outside of the ‘norm’; ‘experimental’ in the context of music can mean exploratory, unorthodox, unpredictable and so forth. We’re interested in all of these things. The more it conforms to tropes or standards, the less likely we are to feature it. If in doubt, listen to our releases on Bandcamp and be real in your assessment as to whether you think your music fits.
WHAT TO SUBMIT—Send links to any examples of your work that can be listened to online, whether public or private, released or unreleased, demo or master, single tracks, EPs, or albums. All are welcomed and encouraged.
HOW TO SUBMIT - Email info@newweirdaustralia.com.au. Please bear in mind that we’re a small operation, so whilst we may not be able to respond quickly, be assured that we listen to and consider all music submitted.
Note, that this is a rolling open callout – feel free to send info at any time.
Given where the world is hanging, we’re no longer going to be posting on the platform formerly known as Tw*tter. Given we’re fond of reading and writing short HILARIOUS commentary, we’ve opted to try the Blueksy platform as a go-to, at least for now. We’ve also created a Starter Pack of new wyrd Australian artists and labels to follow on Bluesky to get the ball rolling. Recommendations of interesting folks on Blursky are welcomed and encouraged.
