Hello from Sydney lockdown. Looks like we’ll be sitting in this world for quite a while longer. Wherever you are in Australia or the world, we hope you’re safe and well.
Lockdown has given us some shards of time to do a couple of things. The website has had a long overdue makeover, meaning music is easier to find, to aid your voyage down the rabbit hole. We reckon there’s over 700 tracks across our various releases - plenty to get lost in - not to mention hours and hours of interviews, live sets and videos.
And the proverbial cherry on top of that is the podcast is changing up. We’ve spent the last few podcast years interviewing some amazing artists; and sharing their stories has been a genuine privilege. But we’re returning to our first love this week - the old school radio show - albeit in podcast form. New Weird Australian radio in a pod-sized format.
Episode NWAP121 features sixty minutes of music from Laughing Gear, Loose-y Crunché, OVRSCN, jobfit, Carnage, Low Flung, The Omega Point, Laila Sakini, Happy Axe and Glass Beams; along with random chatter and context from your host. It was a joy to put this episode together, and we’re 110% sure there will be another one along in a minute.
You can subscribe to the New Weird Australia podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts; to get a now-regular fix of mutant music from the margins.
And with that in mind: if you’re making music, we want to hear what you’re up to - the podcast needs you! Email us some links to your work, or hit us up on Soundcloud. We can’t always respond quickly, but be assured that we listen to everything that gets sent our way.
Happy diving,
New Weird Australia x
